Resi V2: How to Add Alt Text and Tags to Gallery Images

How to add alt text for SEO and accessibility, and how to add tags that control your gallery's filter buttons on the live website.

Before You Start

Why this matters: Alt text improves your search engine rankings and makes your site accessible to all visitors. Tags control the filter buttons visitors see on your gallery (e.g., "Amenities", "Exterior") — incorrect tags create broken or duplicate filters.

Step-by-Step: Add Alt Text

  1. Navigate to your property → Media / Galleries.
  2. Select the gallery containing the image.
  3. Click on the image you want to update.
  4. Click the Metadata tab in the image panel.
  5. Type your alt text in the Alt Text field.

💡 Good alt text = what's in the image + property name. Example: "Resort-style pool at Your Property Name" Aim for 8–15 descriptive words. Avoid generic text like "photo" or "image1".

  6. Click Save.
  7. Repeat for other images, then click Clear Website Cache.

Step-by-Step: Add or Edit Tags

  1. Navigate to your property → Media / Galleries.
  2. Select the gallery.
  3. Click on the image you want to tag.
  4. Click the Tags tab in the image panel.
  5. Add or edit the tag.

⚠️ Critical: Tags are free-form text with no dropdown. Always copy the exact tag name from an existing image in the same gallery. Even a single capital letter difference (e.g., "amenities" vs "Amenities") creates a separate, duplicate filter button on your live site.

  6. Click Save.
  7. Clear the Website Cache.

What Tags Are Currently in Use?

Before adding a new tag, check existing images in the gallery to see what tags are already active. Common tags used across properties:

  • Amenities
  • Residences
  • Exterior

If you're adding a completely new filter category, coordinate with your team first to ensure consistent naming across all properties that share this gallery.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Not adding alt text to new images — every uploaded image should have alt text before it goes live.
  • Typing tags from memory — always copy-paste from an existing tagged image to avoid typos that create duplicate filters.
  • Applying the wrong tags to a global gallery — if the gallery is shared, your tag changes affect every property using it. Check for the Shared tag first.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Solution

A duplicate filter button appeared on the website

A tag was entered with different spelling/capitalization. Find the incorrectly tagged images, fix the tag, save, and clear cache.

Alt text isn't showing in search results yet

Search engines take time to reindex. Alt text is saved correctly — SEO benefits appear over days/weeks, not immediately.

I can't find the Tags or Metadata tab

Make sure you've clicked directly into the image to open the image panel. The tabs appear on the right side.

My gallery is read-only

It may be a Global gallery. Check for the Shared tag and edit from Global Content, or contact support.
